Dear St. Raphael School Families and Friends,

For the past few years, SciTrek from USCB has been coming to our school to work with our 3rd, 4th, 5th 7th and 8th graders. This week they are coming back to campus for round two with some of our students. SciTrek is dedicated to students experiencing the scientific process firsthand. They partner with local schools to present inquiry-based modules that not only emphasize the process of science, but also specific grade-level standards. Each module allows students to design and carry out an experiment. Providing students with the opportunity to not only learn scientific facts, but also experience the scientific method, allows students to understand how scientists use evidence-based explanations to explain the world around them. The volunteers from UCSB shared that St. Raphael School is their favorite school to work with because the students are polite, kind, well behaved and SMART! It’s always a true joy to hear this about our students, especially from people outside the school community.

Our 29th annual auction is right around the corner, so get ready to do the salsa for the “Havana Nights.” The auction committee has been working diligently to prepare for this event. Please remember to check the auction news in the Tuesday Folder to purchase your tickets as well as make your family donation.   The Golden Ticket is now available! For the past three years, we have sold $25 raffle tickets for a grand prize raffle award of one year’s tuition paid. Tickets are available in the school office -- get yours today! The auction is on Saturday, February 25th at the Fess Parker Doubletree Resort. Our school auction is always a fun-filled evening.

Catholic Schools Week is January 29 – February 4. Our schools throughout the United States celebrate the uniqueness of these wonderful institutions. On Monday, January 30, we will have a school assembly on water and the importance of drinking water. Tuesday, there will be another special assembly for our students at 1:00 pm. Wednesday, our 2nd graders will show off their new bike skills after a bike ride with Safe Routes to School.   On Thursday, February 2nd, we will have annual Mass at Bishop Diego High School. All of the Catholic school students in Santa Barbara will celebrate Mass with many of our priests from our local parishes. We look forward to this wonderful opportunity and are so blessed to have this special school community gathering.

Prayer for Catholic Schools
O Christ, our Teacher, You invite Your faithful people to make disciples in Your name and to announce good news to the poor.  We thank You for the gift of Catholic schools, where the message of Your life, death, and resurrection is proclaimed, Christian community is experienced, service to our brothers and sisters is modeled, and worship of You is cultivated.

Increase our zeal for ensuring that all children and families can benefit from a high quality Catholic education, and that Catholic schools grow in their ability to nurture the soul of our nation. We ask this through the intercession of Our Lady, Mother of Catholic Schools.  Amen.

St. Raphael, Pray for Us!

Mission Statement

SR_Emblem-150hSt. Raphael School was founded when God answered a Daughter of Charity’s prayer.  To this day, our mission is consistent with that of our founding Sisters: to educate all children in preschool through eighth grade in mind, body and spirit by imparting the values of Jesus through a rigorous curriculum, devoted faculty and an actively involved parent community.
