Newsletter August 23, 2017

Dear St. Raphael School Families and Friends,

Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year, and a special heartfelt welcome to our new families joining our wonderful community. It was great to see all of the smiling faces this morning as the students eagerly walked on to campus. We are looking forward to another wonderful and fun school year!

Please join us tomorrow, August 24 for our Back to School Bash from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm on the school field. You can sign up to bring something to share at

Just like last year, all of the schools in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles will be taking the STAR testing through Renaissance Learning four times throughout the school year. By testing throughout the school year, teachers and parents will have a better picture of each student’s growth. Students at our school in Kindergarten through 8th grade will be tested. We look forward to being partners in your child’s education once again this year.

Here are a few reminders about dropping off and picking up your children. As per the handbook, students need to be dropped off and picked up in the parking lot, NOT on St. Joseph Street. This is for the safety of everyone. The first bell rings at 7:50 am and the classroom doors will open at this time to ensure that class begins on time at 8:00 am. Our teachers want to make the most of every moment of instructional time, so please do not arrive late! If you are late, you will need to sign your child in at the office and make sure that your child has a tardy slip. We all thank you for your cooperation in ensuring that all of our children are safe!

Important Dates:
August 28 – September 8: STAR Testing Window
September 4: No School. Labor Day
September 7: Back to School Night at 5:30 pm in the Parish Hall
September 18: Jeans for Jesus
September 21: School Mass at 10:00 am
September 26: PE Begins
September 24: Parish Festival

In Mary’s Love,

Ms. Michelle Limb, Principal

A prayer for the new school year:

Father of all mercies
We ask that You would bless
the youngest and littlest of learners,
the most helpless and powerless of persons,
with Your infinite and loving mercy,
granting them the strength to learn, concentrate,
and act in love towards
their teachers and fellow students.
We also ask that You would watch over them,
at home and at school
and give them proper direction
so that they may learn
of Your wonderful virtues.
We ask this in the name of Your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen
by David Bennett
