Dear St. Raphael School Families and Friends,

Our hearts ache for all those suffering in Las Vegas as the horror of Sunday night's shooting continues to unfold. Please join me in prayer for the victims, their families and loved ones, and our nation.

October 2nd is the Feast Day of the Guardian Angels. A Guardian Angel is a heavenly spirit assigned by God to watch over each individual during life. The doctrine of angels is part of the Church’s constant Tradition, based on Sacred Scripture and the teaching of the Fathers of the Church. “Angel” means “messenger” in Greek. Angels are mentioned often in scripture as not only messengers, but also defenders, companions, guides, and guardians. Monsignor Jon reminds us that God gave everyone their own guardian angel to pray for us, to protect us, and to love us. This Feast Day also reminds me of the prayer that we all learned as young children…Angel of God, my guardian dear, to whom His love entrusts me here, ever this day be at my side to light and guard, to rule and guide. Amen.

I want to thank all of you for your support in our Annual Fund! We should be collectively proud that our school community reached our first goal of $29,739.19! It’s a great accomplishment. Now we will continue with phase two of the Annual Fund, seeking grants from foundations and local businesses. We are so grateful for your continued support of our amazing school!

Progress report cards go home next week. Please remember that you can always view your child’s grades via Gradelink. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your child’s teacher as soon as possible.

On October 19th, we will have our Grandparents Mass. Please invite grandparents or honorary grandparents for this special occasion. Mass will be at 10:00 am, followed by a brief classroom visit and then lunch. This is such a wonderful day for our school community as our students spend some quality time with their grandma and/or grandpa! Grandparents will also walk away with a special photo from this memorable day!

Ms. Michelle Limb, Principal

During the next five weeks, please pray the rosary as a family. Each newsletter will contain one of the joyful mysteries.

First Joyful Mystery – The Annunciation                                  Spiritual Fruit:  Humility

The Angel Gabriel declares Mary as the handmaid of the Lord.  She will conceive by the Holy Spirit, and bear a Son who will be called the Son of the Most High.  Mary accepts this honor, while also accepting, without fully understanding, the pain and sorrow that would accompany its fulfillment.  This mystery teaches us that even the purest joy we experience in this life necessarily entails suffering.  It is with full reliance and trust in God that we are able to accept our suffering in order to fulfill our mission and forward God’s plan of salvation with humility and love.
