Newsletter October 23, 2017

Dear St. Raphael School Families and Friends,

We had a wonderful celebration for Grandparents Day. It was so special to see all of the students with their grandparents and the unconditional love grandparents exude. Father Remey celebrated Mass for all of us and spoke about his relationship with his grandmother, and to this day, he still remembers her. He shared that his grandmother’s presence is something that he can still feel and remember to this day! Thank you for making Grandparents Day 2017 so special!

We have two new student experiences at St. Raphael School! Students in grade 4-8 now have the option to stand up for their learning. These classes have the latest in education with stand-up desks! Do you have a difficult time sitting for extended periods or like to move around? These stand-up desks allow for movement and even have a fidget bar! We also started a wonderful program on campus that began a few weeks ago called ARF, which stands for Animals + Reading = Fun! We have trained volunteers that bring their trained dogs to campus so students can read to the dogs once a week. It’s a fantastic program that motivates students to read. Who wouldn’t want to read to a dog?!

Next Tuesday is Halloween and we will have our annual parade that begins at 1:15 pm on the quad. This is always a fun time for students and parents to enjoy the costumes. Please, no scary costumes or masks! The parade will last about 30 minutes and then students will participate in a Harvest Carnival on the backfield.

We also want to thank the Santos, Almazan, and Mendez families as well as the many parents that helped organized our Día de los Muertos ofrenda on the quad. It truly is amazing to see how all of our parents volunteer and donate their time to make St. Raphael School such a wonderful learning community for all!

During the next five weeks, please pray the rosary as a family. Each newsletter will contain one of the joyful mysteries.

The Fourth Joyful Mystery – The Presentation                                  Spiritual Fruit:  Purity of Mind and Body

In observance of the law of Moses, Joseph and Mary take the child Jesus to be presented in the temple to God.  Although not subject to this law, Jesus submits in obedience, and in like manner, Mary, not subject to the law of purification, humbly submits herself to it.  It is at this time also, that the old man Simeon beholds the Son of Man.  Simeon immediately recognizes the child as the King and Savior foretold, and declares the fate of Jesus as a sign that will be contradicted.  This mystery teaches us the importance of purity in thought and deed.  It is in humility that we are able to see our weaknesses and failings, while we recognize our constant need of God’s mercy and grace.
