Newsletter November 6, 2017

Dear St. Raphael School Families and Friends,

Last week, we celebrated both All Saints Day and All Souls Day! During our school Mass for All Saints Day, Father Remmy told us that we are all called to be saints and that we meet saints each day in the faces of people around us. There are countless saints in the Catholic church and many that have lived a saintly life but have not been canonized by the Church. Let’s remember our Baptismal called to be saints and to treat everyone we meet with respect and love as they are saints in the making too!

Many of our classes are participating in SciTrek. Scientists come from UCSB and work with various classes on experiencing the scientific process firsthand. There are different modules that allow students to design and carry out an experiment. Students have the opportunity to not only learn scientific facts, but also understand how scientists use evidence-based explanations in their fields.

This Friday, we do not have school in honor of Veterans Day! Please enjoy this day, but also take some time to remember our service men and women who protected our freedom.

Parent/Teacher conferences are right around the corner. Starting on November 17th and ending on November 2st, parents will have the wonderful opportunity to meet with their child’s teacher to discuss progress and create goals that ensure our wonderful partnerships in each child’s education. Please note that students are dismissed at noon during conferences and that we do not have school on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving.

A Special Prayer for Veterans Day

Father, we could never thank our military men and women enough for their courageous service and sacrifice to our country and its people. Yet today we lift up our voices to express gratefulness and honor to these military troops both from the past and present. Show us ways in our communities, churches, and families to thank and love them. Keep and protect these heroes and their families, in the powerful name of Jesus. Amen.
