Newsletter November 20, 2017

Dear St. Raphael School Families and Friends,

This Thursday is Thanksgiving Day! The meaning of Thanksgiving Day, of course, is giving thanks. The word “Eucharist” means thanksgiving. Mass is the ultimate thank you to God because it is the union of the gift of our lives with Jesus’ gift of His life. Thursday is not a Holy Day of Obligation; it is not a day when you have to go to Mass. It is a day when we get to go to Mass. Many times we come before God and say, "I need, I want, please do.” This is our chance to come back and say, "I love You; You are so good; and of course, thank You!”

On November 21, we will celebrate the Feast of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This is where Mary’s parents, Anna and Joachim, offered Mary to God in the Temple when she was 3 years old.   Mary’s presentation has an important theological purpose. It continues the impact of the feasts of the Immaculate Conception and of the birth of Mary. It emphasizes that the holiness conferred on Mary from the beginning of her life on earth continued through her early childhood and beyond.

Parent/teacher conferences are underway and will continue until Tuesday. Thank you for your continued support by being the primary educators of your children.

Students are dismissed at noon on Tuesday for the Thanksgiving holiday. We hope and pray that you will enjoy this time with family and friends, and remember to give God thanks for all of the blessings He has bestowed on us.

Important Dates:
November 20-21:
Parent Teacher Conferences Noon Dismissal
November 22-24: No School for Thanksgiving
December 4-8: Scholastic Book Fair
December 8: Feast of the Immaculate Conception. School Mass at 10:00 am
December 11: Jeans for Jesus
December 14: Christmas Program at 6:00 pm in the Church.

In Mary’s Love,

Ms. Michelle Limb, Principal

A Prayer for Thanksgiving:

Father in Heaven, Creator of all and source of all goodness and love, please look kindly upon us and receive our heartfelt gratitude in this time of giving thanks.

Thank You for all the graces and blessings. You have bestowed upon us, spiritual and temporal: our faith and religious heritage, our food and shelter, our health, the loves we have for one another, our family and friends.

Dear Father, in Your infinite generosity, please grant us continued graces and blessing throughout the coming year.   This we ask in the Name of Jesus, Your Son and our Brother. Amen.

St. Raphael, Pray for Us!
