Dear St. Raphael Families,
As we enter the sacred season of Advent, we begin a new liturgical year—a time filled with hope, reflection, and spiritual renewal. The word "Advent" comes from the Latin adventus, meaning "coming," reminding us of our anticipation of Jesus’ arrival—both in Bethlehem and at the culmination of our earthly journey.
Advent mirrors Lent in its call to prepare our hearts and minds. It is a season for us to reflect on God’s promises fulfilled through Jesus Christ, drawing from the rich prophecies of the Old Testament.
This past weekend, we lit the first candle on the Advent wreath—a flame shining brightly in the midst of darkness. It symbolizes hope, longing, and faith in the promise of salvation. This light reminds us that Christ came to save us from sin and offer us eternal life. During Advent, we seek His presence in our daily lives, letting Him guide us toward purpose and joy.
In the spirit of this meaningful season, we invite you to deepen your Advent journey by subscribing to daily reflections offered by Father Mike Schmitz. These emails provide thoughtful insights to accompany you through this time of waiting and hope. Sign up for free by clicking here and join thousands in preparing for the birth of our Savior.
As a St. Raphael School family, let us come together this Advent to embrace its blessings and ready our hearts for the joy of Christmas. May this be a time of growth, peace, and renewed faith for all of us.
Wishing you and your family a blessed Advent season filled with light, love, and the hope of Christ’s coming.

Prayer for Advent:
Dear Heavenly Father,
This is my one-word prayer: PEACE.
I can’t see ahead. I don’t know what to do.
Here are all my fears and my questions… [share yours]
I want to experience your perfect peace.
Let it be with me. Just as you say.
Hold me, God, so I can hear you whisper to me, "You don't have to know the way. I do."
In Jesus' name, Amen
