Dear St. Raphael School Family and Friends,
Last Thursday, we crowned Our Blessed Mother during our May Crowning Mass. The queen symbol was attributed to Mary because she was a perfect follower of Christ and is the absolute “crown” of creation. She is the Mother of the Son of God, who is the King of Salvation. Elizabeth greeted the Blessed Virgin, pregnant with Jesus, as “the mother of my Lord” (Luke 1:41-43). Mary consented to God’s plan; she journeyed on the pilgrimage of faith; she listened to God’s Word and kept it in her heart; she remained steadfastly in close union with her Son, all the way to the foot of the Cross; she persevered in prayer with the Church. Thus, in a way she won the “crown of righteousness” (II Timothy 4:8), the “crown of life” (James 1:12; Revelation 2:10), the “crown of glory” (I Peter 5:4) that is promised to those who follow Christ. This is why our May Crowning Mass is such an important day for our school. A very special thank you to Monsignor Jon for celebrating this day with us.
On Thursday, we will have our Spring Sing concert followed by the junior high play. The theme of the Spring Sing is “Festivals Around the World.” Get ready to be wowed by the amazing talent of our students! We will start the evening at 6:00 pm in the Parish Hall. All students need to be in their regular school uniforms and in their classrooms by 5:45 pm. Please plan on staying for the play that follows. The play will last about 30 minutes and is called “Princess and the Pea!”
This Friday, we will have our annual Field Day! All students in KinderKlasse through 8th grade participate in Field Day and have a lot of fun. It’s one of my favorite days as we have the older students helping and cheering on the younger ones. If you would like to volunteer to help, please come to the field at 8:30 am to help set up and run some of the activities.

Hail Holy Queen:
Hail, holy Queen, mother of mercy, our life, our sweetness and our hope. To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve. To thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn then, most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us, and after this our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary! Pray for us, O holy Mother of God, that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ. Amen.
